Weekend Milestones

What??? One of these young men is my little guy who used to wear my peach scarf around his head and pretend he was Michelangelo from the Ninja Turtles??

  • Cam had two lacrosse games yesterday. I realized about two minutes into the first game, that he’s no longer the smallest kid on the field. I used to be able to look for the little guy and know that would be Cam; not anymore. I triple-checked the number on his jersey, because I kept thinking, “He’s gotta be that little guy over there, right? He can’t be that kid with the broad shoulders??”
  • Addie J had a milestone of her own: she fearlessly wiggled her remaining front baby tooth to a thread and then came over to me to pull it out. I always say that, once a kid’s front teeth fall out and their big teeth come in, they never look like little kids again. The J still seems so tiny though– so we’ll have to see whether those massive chompers she inherited from me even fit into her mouth. (I have big teeth. Ask Dave; he calls me Horse Teeth. Obviously this is a term of endearment because he loves me so much.)
  • You know it’s spring, because now that we have successfully won the 2014 Battle for the Front Porch over those damn birds– it’s Rabbit-in-the-Yard time. I’ve been letting Guinness out into the yard roughly every thirty seconds, because he’s determined to catch one (he won’t) and because I keep thinking that, if I let the dog chase them out of the yard enough times, maybe they’ll decide to eat the flowers in someone else’s yard.
  • It is also “Oh, it’s springtime, so I magically no longer have to put a leash on my dog” time. When I walk my dog– who had a hard life and thus does not like or trust other dogs– and someone’s unleashed treasure comes running toward us, Guinness goes CRAZY. Simply saying, “Don’t worry, she’s friendly!” does not defuse the situation at all, by the way. Do you think Guinness hears you and goes, “Oh, okay. I guess I’m being a bit irrational. Thanks for setting me straight, old chap!?” Two choices: fence or leash.
  • We have reached the part of the semester where I no longer want to do any work, and wonder if it’s possible to make the rest of the semester Independent Study. Just so you know.
I give you one very happy and toothless girl. Happy Monday!
